See, it seems to me that once you earn beyond a certain amount nobody works for the money.
The types of people working for salaries of several million dollars a year, don't I would argue lie substantially better lives than those earning much less. Lets face it once you earn enough to put a decent roof over your head, eat what food you like, support your family and kids, take the occasional holiday and not really worry about day to day costs I don't believe your life is substantially better than those who earn more than you but simply spend more money on more expensive but not necessarily qualitatively better things than the things you have.
Instead they get the extra stress, longer working hours, greater responsibility, less free time, less leisure time and shittier work for their privileges.
I've long believed therefore that people who work in the sort of jobs that earn obscene amounts don't do it for the money or lifestyle, they do it for the power, prestige and social position it gives them rather than any quality of life.
Money and the idea that at that end of the scale is any real kind of economic driver always seemed flawed. |
